Service Description

What is microneedling with an exosome-containing product? Microneedling uses a sterile device with fine needles to create controlled microchannels in the skin. This service may include a clinician-selected exosome-containing topical product used as an adjunct according to its manufacturer instructions. It is not a stem-cell transplant and should not be described as replacing or regenerating tissue at a cellular level. What may it help with? Microneedling may improve the appearance of selected acne scars, uneven texture, fine lines and dull-looking skin. It cannot remove scars completely, treat every type of pigmentation or stop skin ageing. Evidence and regulation for exosome-containing aesthetic products continue to develop, so additional benefit beyond microneedling cannot be guaranteed. How does it work? The controlled needle injury initiates a wound-healing response that may support gradual collagen remodelling. Any adjunct product is selected separately. It must not be assumed that a topical product is delivered to a precise depth or provides a medicinal effect. Suitability A consultation is required to review skin type, active acne or infection, cold sores, tendency to form raised scars, medicines, isotretinoin history, pregnancy or breastfeeding, immune conditions and recent procedures. Treatment may be postponed or another option recommended. Treatment and recovery The skin is cleansed and an agreed anaesthetic may be used. Redness, warmth, tightness, swelling, tenderness, dryness, pinpoint bleeding and temporary flaking can occur. Recovery varies with treatment depth and individual response. Risks and limitations Risks include pain, bleeding, infection, cold-sore reactivation, acne flare, pigment becoming lighter or darker, persistent redness, allergic or inflammatory reaction, track marks and scarring. Results may be limited or absent, and multiple sessions may be recommended without a guaranteed outcome. Aftercare Keep the area clean and follow the products and timing advised by your clinician. Avoid picking, make-up, sweaty exercise, swimming, excessive heat, tanning and strong active skincare until advised. Use daily broad-spectrum SPF. Contact the clinic for increasing pain, spreading redness, blistering, discharge or an unexpected reaction. Book a consultation Arrange a consultation at Esteem Life in Glasgow to confirm whether microneedling and the proposed adjunct product are appropriate for your skin.
