Hair Transplant Consultation
One-to-one hair transplant consultation and personalised treatment planning in Glasgow.
Service Description
What is a hair transplant? A hair transplant redistributes suitable hair follicles from a donor area, usually at the back or sides of the scalp, into areas affected by hair thinning or loss. It does not create new follicles, and the technique and number of grafts must be planned for the individual. What may it help with? Transplantation may be considered for selected stable patterns of hair loss where the donor area is suitable. It is not appropriate for every cause of hair loss, and ongoing thinning of non-transplanted hair can continue. Medical investigation or non-surgical treatment may be recommended first. Your consultation and suitability During this one-to-one consultation in Glasgow, we assess your hair-loss pattern, scalp and donor area, medical history, medicines, previous treatment, family history and long-term goals. We will discuss whether transplantation is appropriate, the proposed technique, realistic density, graft planning, limitations, cost and expected timeline. Procedure and recovery If you proceed, follicles are harvested from the donor area and placed into the planned recipient sites under an agreed anaesthetic protocol. Treatment time depends on the number of grafts and technique. Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, crusting, itching and numbness can occur. Transplanted hairs commonly shed before new growth develops gradually over subsequent months. Risks and limitations Risks include bleeding, infection, folliculitis, scarring, altered sensation, temporary shock loss, poor or uneven growth, an unnatural direction or hairline, donor-area thinning and dissatisfaction with density. Further treatment may be needed. Results depend on donor supply, healing and future hair loss and cannot be guaranteed. Aftercare Follow the clinic’s instructions on washing, sleeping position, activity, medicines and protecting the grafts. Do not scratch, rub or pick crusts. Contact the clinic promptly for increasing pain, spreading redness, fever, unexpected discharge or other symptoms identified by your clinician.
