What are dermal fillers? Dermal fillers are injectable products used to add or restore volume, alter selected contours or soften the appearance of some lines. This doctor-led service currently uses hyaluronic-acid-based fillers selected for the individual treatment area and plan. What may they help with? Following assessment, filler may be considered for selected concerns involving the lips, cheeks, chin, jawline, folds or under-eye area. Some higher-risk procedures, including tear-trough or non-surgical nose treatment, require particularly careful selection and may not be offered when risk outweighs likely benefit. Filler cannot guarantee symmetry or a particular appearance. How does treatment work? The selected product is placed at planned tissue depths using a needle or cannula. Hyaluronic acid attracts water and provides volume or structural support. Results are visible early but swelling can temporarily distort the appearance. Longevity varies by product, area, dose, metabolism and movement; a fixed 6–18-month duration cannot be guaranteed. Suitability A medical consultation is required to review anatomy, natural asymmetry, medicines, allergies, dental work, pregnancy or breastfeeding, active infection, immune conditions, previous filler and any past complication. Treatment may be postponed, modified or declined. Treatment and recovery The area is cleansed and an agreed anaesthetic may be used. Pain, tenderness, redness, swelling, bruising, firmness and temporary asymmetry are common. Lumps may be felt while swelling settles. Normal activity may be possible quickly, but little or no downtime cannot be promised. Risks and limitations Risks include infection, persistent lumps or nodules, inflammatory reactions, migration, unevenness, pigment change, tissue injury, scarring and an unsatisfactory result. Accidental injection into or compression of a blood vessel can cause vascular occlusion, skin loss and, very rarely, visual loss, stroke or other serious injury. Dissolving treatment may be required but cannot reverse every complication. Aftercare and urgent symptoms Follow the written aftercare and avoid pressing or massaging unless instructed. Severe or increasing pain, blanching, mottled or unusual skin colour, cool skin, visual disturbance, severe headache, weakness or speech difficulty requires urgent assessment. Breathing difficulty or a severe allergic reaction requires emergency help.
